Fascinating Secrets To Overcoming Imposter Syndrome [VIDEO]

Ezeogu Emeka, Head of Academy and coaching services, Olusola Lanre Coaching Academy, emphasized that overcoming imposter syndrome is very much achievable.

The term “impostor syndrome” was coined in1978 (by two American psychologists, Pauline Clance and Suzanne Imes).

Impostor syndrome  is when you feel inadequate, don’t believe in yourselfs and doubt your capabilities, when you feel that you’re not good enough to do what you’re doing and you’re always suspecting that at one time you would be caught as a fraud and people will discover that you don’t know what you’re doing.

Impostor Syndrome is  when you leave in constant fear. It’s that nagging feeling that you’re not good enough, that you don’t belong, that you don’t deserve the job, the promotion, the book deal, the seat at the table etc.

  1. Recognize that it exists.
  2. You don’t have to be perfect because no one is
  3. Stop compering yourself to people because you will always fall short.
  4. Don’t talk down about your abilities or successes
  5. Trust what you have… Trust your thoughts.
  6. When you receive positive feedback, embrace it with objectivity and internalize it. By denying it, you are hurting that person’s judgement.
  7. Don’t attribute your successes to luck.
  8. Keep a journal. Writing your successes and failures down gives you a retrospective insight about them, and re-reading them makes you remember equally both of them.
  9. Recognize that the perfect performer doesn’t exist, and that problems will pop up eventually. Take them as little fires under you that make you move forward.
  10. Remember that it’s OK to seek help from others, and that even the best do it.
