The husband of late cinematographer Halyna Hutchins who was fatally sh0t while filming the movie ‘Rust’ has come to state that it is absurd that producer Alec Baldwin is not taking responsibility for killing his wife.
Matt Hutchins, blames his wife’s death on the movie’s star, Alec Baldwin, as well as “industry standards that were not practiced” on set.
Halyna Hutchins was shot and killed by a bullet from a prop gun on Oct. 21 while on the set of “Rust” at Bonanza Creek Ranch near Santa Fe, New Mexico. Baldwin was holding the prop gun when it fired, though he told the authorities that he never pulled the trigger
“The idea that the person holding the gun and causing it to discharge is not responsible is absurd to me,” Matt Hutchins told TODAY co-anchor Hoda Kotb during an interview airing in full Thursday on TODAY.
“But gun safety was not the only problem on that set. There were a number of industry standards that were not practiced and there’s multiple responsible parties,” he added.
Less than two months after the tragedy, Baldwin discussed the incident in an interview on ABC News, saying,
“Someone is responsible for what happened, and I can’t say who that is, but it’s not me.”
Reacting to Baldwin discussion during his interview Matt Hutchins said,
“Watching him I just felt so angry,” Hutchins told Hoda. “I was just so angry to see him talk about her death so publicly in such a detailed way and then to not accept any responsibility after having just described killing her.”
“Almost sounds like he was the victim. And hearing him blame Halyna in the interview and shift responsibility to others and seeing him cry about it,” Hutchins said. “I just feel — are we really supposed to feel bad about you, Mr. Baldwin?”
“But in the end, justice won’t bring Halyna back but maybe the memory of her can help keep people safe and prevent something like this from ever happening again,” he said.
