Lent is a forty days solemn religious observance in the Christian calendar which begins on Ash Wednesday and ends approximately six weeks later, which happens to be the night before Easter Sunday. The purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer for Easter through prayer,repentance of sins, almsgiving, simple living and self-denial in preparation for the resurrection of Christ.
