Some Nigerians have begun attacking south African owned businesses and the Shoprite store at ring road Ibadan wasn’t left out.
According to PREMIUM TIMES,
A witness said violence had broken out just before 6:00 p.m. outside the shopping mall.Speaking on the report, the Oyo police commissioner, Sina Olukolu, said Nigerians were expressing their displeasure against South African businesses as part of the recent xenophobic attacks against Nigerians and other foreigners in South Africa.
AdvertisementHe added that he had dispatched teams from several police units to the location to forestall the outbreak of violence. “Our men are on the ground to protect the area and ensure that no serious damage is done to the building,” Mr Olukolu said.
In a related development, scores of protesters stormed the company’s branch at the Cocoa House Mall, Dugbe in Ibadan.
According to a report by Premier FM, prostesters shut down businesses at the branch.
