The International School Ibadan (ISI) has been shut down, following controversies of wearing of hijab by female pupils of the institution. Many of the pupils who are Muslims showed up in school with hijab, against the norms of the school. ISI is located close to Idia Hall inside University of Ibadan.
A group known as International School Muslim Parents Forum wants their children to wear hijab as part of their school uniform. According to the group, wearing hijab is part of their religious belief. It is part of their God given fundamental human right as well as the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), University of Ibadan, Abideen Aderinto said the school will not tolerate the activities of the Muslim forum and plan to impose hijab on the uniform of ISI pupils.
