After 20years of connecting friends, family and other random people from all over the world, the iconic Instant messaging platform Yahoo Messenger will be shutting next month.
Yahoo Messenger, one of the first instant messaging apps to gain popularity, is shutting down on July 17. Yahoo Messenger was first released in 1998.
Yahoo made the announcement on its website, where it said the service can be used normally only until next month. The announcement said:
“After July 17, you’ll no longer be able to access your chats and the service will no longer work”
According to Yahoo, it will be shutting down Yahoo Messenger to focus on “building and introducing new, exciting communication tools.”
However, users of the messaging app can download their chat history before its shutdown after which users are advised to delete the app. The shutdown of Yahoo Messenger will not affect one’s Yahoo ID as it can still be used for other Yahoo products.
