American rapper, Kanye West has implied that slavery in the United States was a choice, by those enslaved.West spoke on Tuesday to TMZ Live about slavery and in his comments He said, “When you hear about slavery for 400 years. For 400 years? That sounds like a choice!”
He added, “Like, you was there for 400 years, and it’s all y’all? You know, it’s like, we’re
mentally in prison. I like the word prison because slavery goes too direct to the idea of
blacks”.
He continued, “Prison is something that unites us as one race. Blacks and whites being one race,” he continued. “That we’re the human race.”
The 40-year-old rapper sparked an outrage with his comment and got fellow artists engaged on the topic.
Kanye also tweeted to clarify his comment during the interview. According to him, of course slaves didn’t just get shackled and put on a boat by free will.

Legend retweeted several posts including one by American film director and producer Ava DuVernay, who wrote:
“I’ve had it with Kanye West and R Kelly using the imagery of lynching as rebuttals re: their dastardly behavior.”Evoking racial terrorism and murder for personal gain/blame is stratospheric in its audacity and ignorance. This is what lynching looked like. How dare they?”
Kanye is known to show less or no concern when he’s been bashed for his mental expressions and talking on slavery has also brought criticism from people.
