A Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Port Harcourt on Thursday remanded in custody a 41-year-old man, Michael Akpan, for allegedly raping his four biological daughters. Michael Akpan’s daughters who he sexually assaulted are between the ages of 2 and 17 years.
Mr. Michael Akpan Isaiah revealed to the court that he did not know what came over him when he involved his four daughters -between the ages of 2 and 17 years old in sexual acts. Isaiah who works as a school gardener, is currently being remanded in police custody for defiling his four daughters.
Reports show that this crime was committed within a private school premises around Borokiri Sand field area in Port Harcourt. Isaiah stood the risk of being sentenced to life imprisonment for the crime.
After admitting to the court that he didn’t know what came over him, Chief Magistrate Zinnah Alikor declared that the accused be held custody, while adjourning the matter indefinitely. Alikor further requested that the Police bring the original case file within seven days, adding that same would be transited to the Department of Public Prosecutions, DPP, for advice.
Fortune Adanda who is a representative of the federation of International Lawyers, FIDA revealed after medical diagnosis that were carried out, results proved that all the victims have been defiled.
According to Adanda, “When we first got wind of this incident, we had to follow up by first reporting to the police. We then carried out a medical check on the girls. The result showed that girls had been defiled.”
Adanda added that FIDA will ensure that the matter is prosecuted appropriately to serve as a lesson to all those who are into such as well as those who intend to go into such crime.
Grace Michael, the mother of the victims said she noticed how her husband treats the daughters and reported him to his relatives, but even afterwards, no serious action was taken while he kept on threatening and beating the girls.
She said:
“Each time anyone complains or objects, he will threaten with different things. He ends up beating the girls up most times when they refuse,”
