Thousands of All Progressives Congress, APC members have decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Rivers State.
They were received by Governor Nyesom Wike at an event held at the Sharks Football Club Stadium in Port Harcourt on Friday.
Some leaders of the defectors said they decided to pitch their tents with the PDP having endured long periods of what they called unfulfilled promises in their former political party.
The defectors were welcome by Governor Nyesom Wike who assured that every member of the PDP would be given equal opportunities to thrive politically.
Governor Wike is confident that the defection would help the political fortunes of the PDP in the 2019 general election.
Meanwhile, the APC in Rivers State has alleged that the crowd of APC defectors were rented from within and outside the State.
The statement by the state APC spokesman, Chris Finebone also accused the sponsors of the defectors of printing and distributing fake APC membership cards to them.
