Ogun state Police command has arrested a 37-year-old man, Ifeanyi Ajaero for allegedly brutalizing his wife, Obiageli, by chaining her to a generating set all night.
According to reports, the incident happened at the couple’s residence at Ewooluwo, Sagamu in Sagamu Local Government Area of the state after Ajaero chained his 28-year-old wife from the night of Friday, April 14 to the morning of Saturday, April 15, 2017, before she was rescued.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi said Obiageli was seriously battered by her husband before he chained her to the Tiger generator popularly called ‘I pass my neighbour’, following an undisclosed offense.
ASP Oyeyemi said the suspect who is a member of the disbanded Merchant Navy, used a handcuff to chain the wife who became very weak as a result of the serious beating she got from the husband.
The PPRO said Ajaero’s neighbours who had been witnessing the frequent beating he metes out to his wife, alerted the police of the latest happening.
The Divisional Police Officer of the command in Sagamu, Aduroja Moses, was said to have responded to the alert and led his men to the scene where the victim was rescued while the suspect was arrested.
The case has been transferred to the Anti- Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the state Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.
