The relationship between the Nigeria Police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC may be headed for the rocks, following the arrest by the Police of two operatives of the paramilitary agency.
The police authorities accused the NSCDC operatives of being in possession of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil, also known as Diesel.
The suspects, who are Assistant Superintendents of the NSCDC, who served in the Bayelsa State Command are being held in the
Police Headquarters Abuja.
They were arrested on March the 7th in the Bayelsa State capital with the petroleum products while they were ferrying it in a vehicle belonging to their agency.
The 350 litre diesel was carefully concealed in sacks, in such a way that it was hard to detect its content.
Wielding a letter, the police spokesman said the Civil Defence Corp has been invited to take custody of the suspects in order to prosecute them, but there has yet been no response from the agency.
The suspects, who were attached to the Critical Infrastructure Department of the Civil Defence in Bayelsa, declined being interviewed on camera.
They denied the claim by the police alleging that they got the product after arresting an illegal dealer.
It is uncertain what would be the reaction of the Civil Defence Corp over the matter.
But paramilitary organisation will definitely not be pleased that the police decided to bring the issue to the full glare of the media.
