Paucity of funds hindering repairs, construction of roads – Fashola

Babatunde Fashola, Minister of Power, Works and Housing

Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Babatunde Fashola has blamed economic recession for his ministry’s inability to fix most of the dilapidated roads in the country.

Fashola spoke when he led officials of his ministries on a courtesy visit to Ondo State, Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu in his office.

Accompanied by officials of the three ministries , the visit gave the minister opportunity to meet minds with the state government.

Fashola said the Federal Government cannot carry out repair and construction of new roads across the country due to paucity of funds and the economic recession.

He noted that special attention will be given to roads with the heaviest traffic.

The minister expressed the readiness of the ministry to reimburse states that repaired federal roads.

Responding, Governor Akeredolu, urged the minister to make Ipele-Isua road a dual carriage way to Abuja because of its economic importance.

He also appealed to the Federal Government to complete abandoned road projects in the state and address power outage in the Southern senatorial district of the state.

The minister and his entourage later inspected some federal roads in the state.
