Fans remember Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher at memorial

Actresses Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher were remembered at a public memorial service on Saturday (March 25) at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in the Hollywood Hills, where the mother and daughter were laid to rest side-by-side at a private funeral in January.

Todd Fisher, son of Reynolds and younger brother to Carrie, said he arranged the tribute to celebrate the lives of the Hollywood stars, who died a day apart in December.

The event featured home videos and photo montages set to music, as well as performances by the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles and dancers from the Debbie Reynolds Dance Studio.

Comedian Dan Aykroyd, who was once engaged to Fisher and actor Griffin Dunne, her close friend, paid tribute to the Star Wars actress.

Reynolds was remembered by actress Ruta Lee, who urged her fans not to mourn but to take delight in the “Singin’ in the Rain,” star’s life.

Hundreds of fans of the two lined up for hours to say a final goodbye to them. Many placed flowers at their grave after the memorial.

Best known for her role as Princess Leia in the “Star Wars” films, Carrie Fisher, 60, died on December 27, four days after suffering a heart attack on a flight from Britain, where she had been shooting the third season of a British television comedy.

A day later, Reynolds, who sang and danced her way into the hearts of moviegoers in Hollywood musicals, suffered a stroke and died at the age of 84.
