Rockband Motorhead gets ‘insane’ video game makeover

British rock band Motorhead have received an ‘insane’ video game dedicated to them by the makers of action-RPG ‘Victor Vran’.

“Motorhead: Through The Ages” is an expansion for the action-packed ‘Victor Vran’ which introduces new locations, weapons and enemies to the original game.

The critically well regarded ‘Victor Vran’ is designed by independent Bulgarian studio Haemimont Games.

The CEO of Haemimont, Gabriel Dobrev, described how he and his fellow game designers would listen to Motorhead when they were making ‘Victor Vran’.

They then decided to approach Motorhead to see if they could license their music but talks progressed to the point they ended up collaborating on a fully fledged game..

“The Motorhead is a special expansion called ‘Motorhead: Through the Ages’ of the game and it’s all built around Motorhead. It’s built around ideas that they have in their songs. It’s built around their music. it’s built around different visuals that they have, albums covers, stuff that they did on stage and it’s all created around the idea of Motorhead,” said Dobrev.

He added that gamers will be able to dress their character up in Motorhead clothing and fight demons with a guitar.

Motorhead guitarist Phil Campbell was present at a preview event for the game in London on Thursday (February 9) set in the spooky location of The Crypt at St Andrew Church.

The 55 year-old worked as a creative consultant on the game.

“Well, initially the guys they asked us to contribute some music and a lot of the guys doing the things were Motorhead fans so we kind of got cheeky and we said come on. So, we ended up doing it with us, you know, making it about us which we’re chuffed about. I’ve just seen some stuff of it now the latest. It’s fantastic, yeah, I’m really excited about it,” said Campbell, describing how the idea for the game came about.

Campbell also said his late band mate, Lemmy, who died in 2015, was a gamer himself and would have ‘loved’ seeing Motorhead get their own computer game.

“Yeah, it’s totally insane. That’s what we all liked and that’s what Lem (Lemmy) would have liked. Yeah and Lem would be laughing now, he’d be laughing at this, yeah. Lem spent many a time on the tour bus – I used to have the upstairs lounge when we toured and Lem would have his lounge downstairs. But if I wanted to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night I’d have to go downstairs but if I wanted to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night I’d have to go downstairs. Lem was always on his pod or his computer doing games and stuff. He’d have loved this, yeah. He’d have been on this for years and years and years trying to make himself look better looking or louder or something. I’m sure he would of. How do you make this louder, Phil?”
