A delegation of West African officials including President Muhammadu Buhari, Liberian leader Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and former Ghanaian President John Mahama have held talks with Gambian President Yahyah Jammeh.
We’re yet to receive an official communique, but the leaders have been trying to persuade Jammeh to make an honourable exit, after he lost lost the December 1st election.
He initially conceded defeat but contested the results a week later, and called for another poll. He has now refused to give up power.
The Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS wants a peaceful resolution to the impasse, but has hinted at possible military action.
