A day after the murder of human rights lawyer and activist, Ken Atsuwete, the police and the two major political parties in Rivers disagree on the motive behind his killing.
The police is blaming his death on kidnappers, while the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, and the opposition All Progressives Congress are pointing accusing fingers at one other.
Until investigations are concluded, the real motive of those behind the death of vocal human rights lawyer, Ken Atsuwete will continue to be in the realm of speculations.
Further fueling conflicting reports is the fact that police investigations are yet to begin.
But in a bid to offer a possible explanation, the police said the Delta state born lawyer may have been shot at and murdered following a failed kidnapped attempt at Aluu community where the victim used to reside before his death.
Ken was said to be a staunch supporter of the APC. He is also said to have handled several high profile political and criminal cases.
Before his murder,Ken was the defense counsel to a Rivers state APC stalwart, Ojukaye Flag-Amachree.
Amachree, a former chairman of Asari Toru LGA is presently in prison custody, facing trial on alleged murder charges filed by the Rivers state government.
For this the state APC is alleging foul play in Ken’s murder.
For now, the police has appealed for calm urging all concerned groups to refrain from taking laws into their hands.
It has also warned against unnecessarily over heating the state’s political atmosphere with inflammatory comments.
