The PDP, yesterday, conducted the election of ad hoc delegates, who will elect the governorship candidate of the party next Monday ahead of the september 10 gubernatorial elections in Edo state.
The election, which was held in all the 192 wards of the state, was monitored in some wards by a committee sent by the national caretaker committee of the party and members of the state working committee led by the state chairman, Chief Dan Orbih. Also present in the monitoring team were officials of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agents.
The PDP committee had a former governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam, as chairman, a former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Steve Oru, as secretary and Dr. Akilu Ndabawa, Hon Bobo Misau, Barrister Nonye Nwangu and Hon Ejike Ani as members.
A consensus arrangement held sway in all the wards visited in Ikpoba-Okha, Oredo, and Egor local government areas, while reports from other parts of the state indicated that the same consensus arrangement produced the three delegates per ward.
In Ward 3, Oredo Local Government Area, the trio of Barrister Faith Osadolor, Dan Orobedoh, and Hannah Igie emerged delegates through a voice vote.
Speaking on the conduct of the exercise, former Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam expressed satisfaction in the exercise, remarking that with the support given the exercise by party stakeholders, the PDP in Edo State was determined to reclaim Edo State from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“I’m satisfied. I’m particularly impressed with the enthusiasm and commitment of the people, especially the chairman and his members, stakeholders and the aspirants. “We held a meeting with them, and we can say that all of them are on the same page.
The entire stakeholders of the PDP in Edo State are very committed to this exercise and are involved in the exercise. “The PDP is a party that believes in due process. The caretaker committee of the party selected us to come and conduct this exercise that will lead to the election of who becomes the candidate of the party”.
“Because of the seriousness attached to the exercise, the PDP selected prominent Nigerians. We refused to remain in our hotels and expect a report to be brought to us. We wanted to be sure of what comes out of the exercise,” the former Benue governor said.
As at press time, only three aspirants, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Mr. David Edebiri and Mr. Matthew Iduoriyekemwen are in contention for the ticket. A fourth aspirant, Mr. Naiwu Osahon was, as at press time, yet to obtain the N16 million form.
