Subsidy removal: Lawmaker urges Nigerians to be patient

TVC E. Following the announcement made by the Federal Government on the removal of subsidy on petrol and pegged its price at N145 per litre, generated lots of negative reactions, some people are optimistic and believe that the federal government will soon end the hardship being faced by Nigerians.

It was reported that Jide Jimoh, the lawmaker representing Mainland constituency in the House of Representatives, noted that the increment in pump price was aimed at the greater good of Nigerians. “The increment in fuel price is not to put Nigerians into any form of hardship but to bring change that will bring lasting enjoyment afterward,” he said.

“I believe Nigerians will smile and there shall be light at the end of the tunnel but Nigerians must understand that President Buhari meant good for the country,” he said

Calling on all Nigerians to be patient, the lawmaker said: “What is of necessity now is for all of us to rationalize and be creative and at the end of the day allow wisdom to prevail in this circumstance.

“I know Buhari has promised us very good things but the rate at which Nigerians are now getting involved like queuing up endlessly without having the petroleum product is not good for us.” Jimoh called on the federal government to embark on massive provision of buses and rejuvenation of rail lines to cushion the effect.

Meanwhile, Ibe Kachikwu, the minister of petroleum resources, has also urged Nigerians to be patient as the increased fuel prices will soon reduce. In a recent interview the minister assured that Nigerians would be amazed at how the prices of petrol will drop in six months. “I am appealing to Nigerians to please for the first time realise that we are doing our very best. I have together with everybody who is in this government worked night and day looking for solutions.

“We mean well and Nigerians should please trust us. Give us a chance, you will be surprised what will become of your PMS price over the next six to eight months,” he said.
