TVC E, POLITICS – The political crisis in Rivers State has got many senators worried about how a simple election to fill federal and state legislative positions could turn so violent that to over eighty percent of the polls had to be cancelled .
Some Senators have urged President Muhammadu Buhari to direct security agencies to deploy more personnel to Rivers state to forestall the political crisis in the area degenerating any further.
Speaking exclusively with TVC News, the senators who are from the three political parties in the Senate, canvassed a bipartisan solution in Rivers state but were divided on alleged plans to impose a state of emergency.
They want President Buhari to direct the deployment of more policemen and other security personnel in order to prevent more deaths and destruction of property.
The federal lawmakers are divided on recent agitation by some groups for the imposition of a state of emergency as a result of silent killings, inconducive environment for INEC officials and attacks on security personnel.
The senators also commiserated with the family of the deceased youth Corps member and other Nigerians killed in the crisis.
They asked political gladiators in Rivers to cut down on their political rhetoric, divisive language and subject themselves to democratic norms.
