TVC E, NEWS – The death toll from the Lassa Fever outbreak in Nigeria has risen to 63.
The latest toll is recorded out of 212 suspected cases in 62 local government areas spread across 17 states.
The Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole, gave the statistics in Abuja.
New confirmed cases of Lassa Fever have surfaced in three states of the Federation in the past 36 hours, including Delta, Ekiti and Plateau.
Last Saturday, the Lagos state commissioner for health, Dr.Jide Idris, briefed the media where he confirmed the first case of the outbreak of the disease in the state.
Meanwhile, a 65-year-old female patient is being treated at the Federal Medical centre in Asaba, the Delta state capital.
22 people have also been put under surveillance after it was established that they had contact with the primary case.
The Commissioner for Information in Delta state, Mr. Patrick Ukah, spoke to us earlier on efforts by the state government to contain the Lassa fever outbreak in the state.
