TVC E. ( INSURGENCY) : Nigeria’s minister of information has called on the police to wade into the war against insurgency by protecting soft targets.
Lai Mohammed stated, at the force headquarters, that the police have a key role to play in post conflict peace building.
Responding to the call, the police chief, Solomon Arase, said the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of operations is in the northeast to map out a safe corridor for the return of IDPs
This is the Maiden visit of the Minister of Information to the Inspector General of Police at the Force Headquarters.
The minister wants the police to brace up and take up the task of protecting soft targets against insurgent attacks.
The Minister insists that Boko Haram’s capabilities have been degraded, even though the group still poses a potent threat.
Like other law enforcement agencies, the police needs to deploy a sizable number of operatives to the northeast as part of the post conflict building measures.
Until that is done, it would be difficult for the IDPs to return to their homeland.
