TVC E, POLITICS – The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed February 6, 2016 for the rerun elections in Rivers State.
Addressing leaders of Political parties in Port Harcourt on Thursday, the outgoing Resident Electoral Commissioner of the state, Dame Khan, added that the date for the rerun elections was still tentative.
Khan explained that election’s would be held for 22 House of Assembly seats, 12 House of Representatives seats and three senatorial seats.
She added that 6,806 card readers would be deployed for the exercise, even as she called on various political parties to come to the state INEC office to get clarifications on issues concerning the forthcoming elections.
But the Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council of Nigeria, Chief Felix Obuah, has faulted the February 6, 2016 date fixed by INEC for the elections.
Obuah, who is also the state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, explained that the time given to political parties for preparation was too short to hold any serious campaign.
He said, “This is a proof of some allegations that there is a grand conspiracy between INEC and the APC. It had never been done before that only one week notice will be given for election.”
