TVC E, POLITICS – Governor Seriake Dickson of the Peoples Democratic Party has won the Bayelsa state gubernatorial election after securing the highest votes.
Mr Dickson, polled a total of 134,998 votes to beat former governor of the state, and candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Timipre Sylva, who scored 86,852 votes.
The substantive election in the state was held on December 5, 2015 but INEC declared the election inconclusive after it cancelled the poll in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area due to reports of widespread electoral malpractices and violence.
The electoral umpire subsequently fixed January 9, 2016 for a supplementary election in the affected local government and some polling units in other local governments where election did not hold on December 5.
