Hosts Rwanda got off to a good start following their 1-0 group A win against Cote d’Ivoire in the opening game of the Championship for African Nations.
Emery Bayisenga scored the only goal of the game in the 16th minute via a free-kick.
In the second half, Bayisenga had the chance to make it 2-0 for Rwanda in the 60th minute, but his penalty was saved.
Despite the penalty miss, Rwanda held on to their lead to secure the first three points of the championship.
Rwanda’s next game comes up on Wednesday, when they will square off against Gabon.
Also on Wednesday, Cote d’Ivoire will hope to bounce back from the opening day setback when they take on Morocco.
