Psychiatric test will curb road crashes – Fashola

TVC E, NEWS – Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola believes the introduction of Community service and psychiatric evaluation will go a long way to curb road crashes in the country.

The former Lagos state governor insists that going beyond fines and jail penalties, to compelling traffic offenders to carry out community service in their areas will help in curbing bad driving attitudes.

National Assembly Correspondent, Joke Adisa reports that Fashola made the submission at a public hearing on a bill seeking to amend the Federal Road Safety Commission Bill 2007.

Fashola advocates community service and psychiatric evaluation for road offenders

Nine years after it was amended, the National Assembly is set to further improve on the law setting up the Road safety Commission.

This latest alteration seeks to introduce six new offences to the thirty six in existence.

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing believes that penalties such as monetary fines and jail terms have not yielded desired results.

Other stakeholders declare support for the bill have areas in which they beg to differ.

Participants at the occasion unanimously agree that the efforts of the Commission over the years have helped greatly in reducing fatal road crashes and the said the proposed amendment is to further enhance road safety in the country.
