Senate begins debate on 2016 budget

TVCE E, POLITICS – The Senate has commenced debate on the 2016 budget.

Senators charged President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently constitute his economic management team to resolve issues relating to the downturn in the economy.

Other contributors asked their colleagues to ensure that the parameters of the budget are reviewed in line with the falling global oil prices.

The senators also demanded more investment in renewable energies.

Senators applauded the social intervention programs of the new government but urged President Buhari to ensure strict monitoring, evaluation and accountability of the conditional cash transfer schemes and proposed 500,000 jobs.
