$2.1bn arms deal scandal: Why Goodluck Jonathan has not been arrested – EFCC

The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) Ibrahim Magu said the war against corruption has just began.

He stated this during an interactive session with Online journalist at a meeting held in Lagos yesterday January 11th 2016, he said no stone will be left unturned in making sure corrupt elements are brought to book because the rate at which the country’s fund was being looted is quite alarming.

On if former president Goodluck Jonathan would be invited for questioning over the Dasuki arms scandal, he said Jonathan has not been invited because memos and documents regarding the disbursement of the $2.1 billion indicate that the money was not approved for political campaign purpose.

Magu said Jafar Isa who was arrested recently for receiving N170 million from former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd), has returned N100 million and an undertaking has been signed by him to return the balance.

The Acting Chairman says the agency is yet to arrest former President Goodluck Jonathan because no document has been traced to him giving any approval for the disbursement of the money for any purpose other than arms purchase.
