Jaden Smith’s Netflix series The Get Down canceled after just one season

Jaden Smith’s Netflix show The Get Down has been canceled after just one season.

The decision by the streaming service to pull the plug on the musical drama was reported Wednesday by Deadline.com.

Created by Moulin Rouge director Baz Luhrmann, it was one of the most costly projects backed by Netflix with the 12-episode first season costing about $120 million, the website said.

In a Facebook post, Luhrmann appeared to blame his desire to return to making movies for the cancellation.

While he had served as showrunner for the first season, he had planned to take a step back and not be so heavily involved in a second.
