Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has expressed satisfaction with progress made by the Nigerian Military in containing the insurgency in the North-East.
Osinbanjo who spoke after this month’s National Security Council meeting, acknowledged that security agencies still need to be on the alert, to deal with the new form of asymmetric warfare Boko Haram has resorted to, following the degradation of its capacity to inflict damage.
In his opening briefs Defense Minister Mansur Dan-Ali had commended the present administration for recently procuring modern equipment to enhance the combat effectiveness of the Nation’s armed forces.
Dan-Ali also disclosed that the Memorandum of Understanding for the Multinational Joint Task Force had been signed at a recent meeting of Defense Ministers of the Lake Chad Basin Commission aimed at supporting the operations against terrorists in the Lake Chad Basin named Gama Aiki II.
He said that peace talks were ongoing in Southern Kaduna State, to address the current clashes between herdsmen and farmers in the communities, but as part of efforts to ensure a more permanent solution, the Nigerian Army is in the process of constructing a permanent barracks in Kafanchan.
The defense Minister revealed that the Nigerian Army would conduct a military exercise in Southern Kaduna, Falgore Forest in Kano and the forest in Bauchi to flush out the criminal elements hiding under the guise of being herdsmen, to wreak havoc on communities.
