Airlines cannot afford current aviation fuel price – NNPC

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation says the hardship in the aviation sector is not due to the scarcity of Jet-A1, but the inability of the airlines to pay for the product.

The Group Managing Director of NNPC, Maikanti Baru, revealed this to journalists in Abuja, insisting that there has been adequate supply of the product.

He explains that the introduction of a cash-and-carry policy by the corporation was meant to reduce huge debts by the airlines.

The corporation is believed to be working on gas monetization through aggressive enhancement of domestic supply for power generation and industrial use.
