Nigerian Navy clampdown on illegal refineries

The Nigerian Navy says it has intensified its operations against oil thieves and criminals in the Niger delta Region.

The force has raided 23 illegal refineries and clamped down on crude oil thieves.

Navy spokesman, Rear Admiral Christian Ezekobe said a patrol team deployed by Nigeria Navy Ship Delta also arrested the Captain of a merchant Vessel, for his alleged involvement in pipeline vandalism.

Ezekobe noted that the raid which was conducted in conjunction with security partners resulted in the destruction of two boats, and six drums containing suspected illegally refined oil.
