Godwin Obaseki sworn-in as 5th civilian Edo Governor

Mr Godwin Obaseki who won the 28th of September 2016 gubernatorial election in Edo State has been sworn in as the 5th civilian governor of the state.
He took over the reins of power from comrade  Adams Oshiomhole who had been in the saddle for the past eight years.

Mr Obaseki took his oath of office by 12.30pm Nigerian time today at a colourful and well attended ceremony held at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in the state capital, Benin City.

That was the mandatory oath taking by Mr Godwin Obaseki as provided for in the Nigerian constitution to mark the symbolic beginning of his tenure as the governor of Edo State.

The oath was administered by the state Chief Judge, Crownwel Idahosa.

And it happened immediately after his deputy, Phillip Shaibu had the  oath taking.

After the oath taking, Mr Obaseki performed his first official function as governor by inspecting a guard of honour mounted by members of the Nigerian police force.

He was to later address the enthusiastic crowd at the stadium. And speaking in his capacity as the new helmsman, Mr Obaseki assured the people of Edo State of his determination to build on Oshiomhole’s successes. He also promised to bring prosperity to all and sundry during his tenure as governor.

Some Edo indigenes we interviewed at the arena said they were happy that he emerged as governor and prayed that he fulfills his campaign promises.

Mr. Godwin Obaseki was an integral part of the immediate past administration led by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and did so well as head of the economic team that transformed the state.

Mr Obaseki’s performance endeared him to the comrade governor who did not hesitate to endorse his candidature.
