Story of Oloibiri comes alive through film

The story of the sleepy community of Oloibiri in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, where crude oil was first discovered and exploited in commercial quantity in 1956 in Nigeria, came alive as a film, entitled, Oloibiri.

The film was screened for a select audience recently in Lagos.

The feature length movie is based on the life of the people of Oloibiri community, as crude oil appears to have brought more harm than good, underdevelopment amidst growing concerns for the survival of the people.

Producer of the film Rogers Ofime says the film is meant to capture and preserve history, build national consciousness, strengthen national and attract public-private support for the concerned communities, where applicable.
