Nigeria begin 2018 World Cup quest with 2-1 win in Zambia

The Super Eagles of Nigeria saw off a late rally from the Chipolopolos of Zambia to win their Group B opening game of the Russia 2018 World Cup qualifiers in faraway Ndola.

Gernot Rohr’s side pipped the Zambians 2-1 courtesy of first half strikes from youngsters, Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho.

The Eagles were however on the back-foot for much of the second half after the Zambians pulled one back.

But Nigeria held on through brilliant saves from goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme to pick up an important away win and run home with the three points.
