Edo poll : EU observers sue for peace

The European Union Observers in town for the Edo State governorship poll have appealed to political actors in the state to eschew violence during this period of the election in the interest of residents.
The high-powered election monitors made the appeal while  addressing journalists in Benin City after a closed door meeting with the candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC in the election.

The European Union election observers spoke against the backdrop of insinuations and speculations as well as trading of blames by the two leading political parties in Edo state over who was behind the election’s postponement.

The two political parties mostly seen by the people to be locked in this bitter rivalry and trading of unfriendly words are the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

And in his words, all the supporters of  APC in the state and himself are willing to cooperate with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and security agencies to ensure a violence free election.

Edo State’s governorship election earlier scheduled to hold on the 10th of September 2016 was postponed on Friday by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, citing security threats.

But the PDP accused the ruling APC of instigating the postponement to avert defeat.
