Nigerian football lovers have backed Dream Team coach, Samson Siasia’s decision to quit Nigerian football.
Siasia dumped Nigerian football after leading the Under 23 team to bronze at the 2016 Olympic Games, citing a “disrespectful system,” among a number of other problems.
The coach, who also won a silver medal at the Beijing Games in 2008, said his decision was as a result of unpaid wages and a lack of appreciation for his work.
In an online opinion poll conducted by TVC Entertainment, 65.79 percent of the entries received, indicated that the gaffer’s decision was appropriate, as his treatment at the hands of Nigerian sports authorities was not fair.
In similar vein, 10.53 percent of the respondents said the coach had overstayed his welcome because Nigerian football has been plagued by crises, hence he should have left long before now.
But 21.05 percent held that the timing of his departure was inconsequential. This category of football fans believe that whatever decision he makes, Nigerians should respect it.
The option which alluded that his abdication was too quick, received no entry, suggesting that to a large extent, Nigerians are in support of the gaffer.
Siasia, a former striker was the head coach of the Nigerian Men National football team from 2010 to October 2011. He was reappointed in 2016.
He is the most decorated African football coach at the Olympics.
