TVC E. Nigeria’s international, Chisom Chikatara scored on his first start for Moroccan outfit, Wydad Casablanca, as they battled to a 1-1 draw against Zesco United in a CAF Champions League fixture on Wednesday at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, Ndola.
Owino Odhiambo put the hosts in front in the 17th minute, while Chikatara equalised for his side in the 56th minute with a stunning strike from about 20 yards out.
The African Nations Championship hero in Rwanda was however taken off injured not long after his goal.With their place in the semi-finals already secured following a 2-1 win in their last fixture against Ivorien side ASEC Mimosas, Wydad coach John Toshack opted to rest some of his regular stars and Chikatara who recently joined the Casablanca- based outfit from Nigeria Professional Football League side Abia Warriors was one of the players that benefited from the change in personnel.
Zesco United who are also through to the last four but are looking to secure top position in the group took the lead after 17th minute when Odhiambo nodded the ball from a corner kick.
The home side dominated the game totally in the first half but were unable to add to their goal tally.
They were however stunned when Chikatara blasted the ball home 11 minutes after the break.
With no one closing him down, the striker let fly from range with the ball finding the back of the net via the inside of the post.
Both sides poured forward in the closing stages of the encounter looking for the winner but were unable to find a breakthrough.
Wydad with the draw finished top of the group with 11 points and will face Egyptian champions Zamalek in the last four, while Zesco United will confront Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa in the other semi-final fixture.
