TVC E. Douglas Jack Agu, popularly known as Runtown, the Nigerian singer, songwriter and producer with a diverse musical style mix of hip-hop, R&B, reggae and rap has reportedly parted ways with his record label, Eric Many Records.
The “Ghetto University”pop act also claims the label robs him of royalties claiming threat to his life and extortion.
Runtown was signed under the Ericmany Entertainment label that presently holds the copyright to all his music. He was sued in the Federal High Court by Ericmany on allegations that he signs up, concludes and attends musical shows without the knowledge of the label.
Eric Many, owned by billionaire businessman, Okwudili Umenyiora, secured a court injunction stopping Runtown from performing as an artist, amongst other things, pending when they settle their issues.
In reaction to this, Runtown got his lawyers to write the label, claiming threat to life, extortion, and that he didn’t get his payment/royalties from performances, ring-back tunes and digital music streaming revenues among others.
The ‘Bend down pause’ crooner has reportedly returned all properties he received from the label when he signed with them in 2014.

That’s the way it’s done in Nigeria: once the artist feels he or she has become successful, he or she dumps the Label. That’s why the label patronage thing may never work here!
