FG pledges to refine aviation fuel locally

The federal government has promised to make fuel available for the Aviation sector.

Managing Director of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria Saleh Dunoma said the government would do this by refining the product locally.

Dunoma made this known during a meeting on reliable jet fuel supply in Lagos.

Aviation Corespondent, Lilian Eze-Mark reports that scarcity of aviation fuel, one of the critical components of managing airline operations continues to be on the front burner.

Marketers and consumers of the product in Nigeria gathered to review jet fuel supply chain management from refineries to aircraft wings.

They identified industry key issues to include infrastructural under development, over stretched port facilities and zero refining capacity.

Regulators of the aviation sector, International Air Transport Association agreed that reliable jet fuel supply is the lifeline of aviation growth in Nigeria.

The panel is of the view that government’s role in resolving the scarcity of jet fuel is critical.

Aviation fuel companies seek government’s support in sourcing foreign exchange, long term fuel storage at the airport, license to more private refineries that are jet fuel based and increased use of hydrant pipeline as supply route from the airfield depot to the airports.
