Netflix Expands Gaming Division with New President Alain Tascan from Epic Games

Netflix has appointed Alain Tascan as the new President of Games, marking a significant step in the company’s growing gaming division.

Previously, Tascan served as the executive vice president of game development at Epic Games, where he played a key role in the creation of popular titles such as FortniteLego FortniteRocket League, and Fall Guys.

In addition to bringing Tascan on board, Netflix is actively recruiting creative talent. Since launching its gaming initiative in 2021, the company has acquired several indie studios, including Night School, Boss Fight, Next Games, and Spry Fox, and has successfully introduced a variety of acclaimed indie games to mobile platforms. During its second-quarter earnings call, Netflix executives revealed that over 80 games are currently in development, which would nearly double its existing library of around 100 titles.

Many of these upcoming projects will feature interactive storytelling based on Netflix’s popular shows and movies, aiming to provide fans with new ways to engage with their favorite content. Co-CEO Ted Sarandos remarked, “I think our opportunity here to serve super fandom with games is really fun and remarkable.” Additionally, a multiplayer game based on Squid Game is expected to launch later this year.

Despite Netflix’s considerable investment in its gaming division, user engagement has been modest. In 2022, the gaming library attracted approximately 1.7 million daily users and recorded 23.3 million downloads across its titles.
