Sony has announced the termination of its Sony Rewards program by the end of 2024. This decision does not impact PlayStation Stars, which rewards players with digital collectibles, nor the discontinued PlayStation Rewards program that offered PSN bonuses. Instead, it affects the rewards program tied to the Sony and PlayStation-branded Visa credit cards.
The company has updated its FAQ and Terms and Conditions pages to indicate that the Sony Rewards website and mobile app will cease operations on December 31, 2024. New members will no longer be accepted into the program effective immediately. Existing Sony and PlayStation cardholders can still redeem points, access their accounts, and submit bonus points and purchase credit request forms via the app until New Year’s Eve. However, physical submissions of bonus points and credit requests by mail will end after July 21.
Members can no longer earn points through offers or partner promotions, nor can they link their accounts to the Sony Store or Movies Anywhere. Sony Rewards customer service will close on February 14, 2025. Comenity Bank will contact Sony and PlayStation credit cardholders regarding changes to the credit card programs, but cardholders can continue using their cards until December 31.
Launched in 2017, the Sony Rewards program allowed users to earn points through their Sony or PlayStation credit cards, which could be redeemed for Sony-branded items. Despite the attractive prospect of redeeming points for PlayStation games, the program had limitations, including a high APR of 27.99%. Comparatively, the Xbox Mastercard introduced by Microsoft last year has a variable APR of 20.99%, 26.99%, or 31.99% depending on the balance but also lacks cash-back benefits.
