Bologna FC has named Vincenzo Italiano, the former coach of Fiorentina, as their new manager, succeeding Thiago Motta. Italiano, 46, has signed a two-year contract with Bologna, stepping in for the 41-year-old Motta, whose contract was not renewed at the end of the season.
Italiano resigned from his position at Fiorentina on Sunday following their final match of the season. He joined Fiorentina in 2021 after successfully guiding Spezia to promotion to Serie A. During his tenure at Fiorentina, Italiano led the team back to European football after a five-year absence and steered them to three cup finals.
Despite a strong performance, Fiorentina experienced another setback last season, losing the Europa Conference League final for the second consecutive year.
At Bologna, Italiano will have his debut experience managing a team in the Champions League. Bologna secured fifth place in Serie A under Motta, earning a spot in Europe’s premier club competition for the first time.
Reports from Italian media suggest that Motta is poised to take over as Juventus’ manager, following the dismissal of Massimiliano Allegri.
