Cristiano Ronaldo headlines the squad, marking his sixth European Championship appearance, having participated in 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020. Francisco Conceicao and Pedro Neto are the notable new additions.
Ronaldo, currently playing for Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League, has impressively netted 42 goals and provided 13 assists in all competitions. Martinez praised Ronaldo’s consistency and fitness, emphasizing his crucial role in the team’s offense.
Joining Ronaldo is veteran defender Pepe, aged 41, who continues to be a key figure for FC Porto, contributing significantly to their Champions League journey and domestic league performance. Martinez highlighted Pepe’s leadership and defensive prowess.
Portugal heads into Euro 2024 after a flawless qualifying campaign, with Martinez boasting 11 wins out of 12 matches in charge. Before the tournament, the team will play friendlies against Finland, Croatia, and the Republic of Ireland.
This marks Portugal’s ninth European Championship appearance, with past achievements including a championship win in 2016 and finalist spots in 2004.
