West Ham United is swiftly seeking a successor for David Moyes before the start of the 2024/25 football season. The decision to terminate Moyes’ contract came after a disappointing season across all competitions, with the club failing to achieve desired results, notably conceding 70 goals in the Premier League. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that West Ham has reached an agreement with former Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui for the upcoming season, with final details settled.
Ruben Amorim, coach of Sporting Lisbon, was also considered but his £12.8 million release clause posed an issue for West Ham. Amorim has since announced his commitment to Sporting, focusing on their trophy aspirations.
Following a 5-2 defeat by Crystal Palace, the board initiated the search for Moyes’ replacement. Lopetegui’s track record suggests potential improvement for West Ham, evidenced by his turnaround of Wolves’ fortunes in 2022, guiding them from relegation-threatened to a 13th-place finish. Additionally, his successful tenure at Sevilla, boasting a superior points-per-match ratio compared to Unai Emery, adds to his appeal for West Ham.
