Late Goal Seals Juventus’ 3-2 Aggregate Win Over Lazio, Securing Italian Cup Final Berth

A late goal set up by Timothy Weah for Arkadiusz Milik secured Juventus‘ place in the Italian Cup final on Tuesday, maintaining the team’s hopes for its first trophy in three years. Despite losing the second leg of the semifinal 2-1 to Lazio, Juventus advanced with an aggregate score of 3-2.

Weah’s cross, tapped in by Milik seven minutes before the final whistle, proved decisive. Lazio’s Taty Castellanos netted a goal in each half, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Juventus’ earlier lead. Juventus had taken the first leg 2-0 with goals from Federico Chiesa and Dusan Vlahovic.

In the final on May 15 in Rome, Juventus will face either Atalanta or Fiorentina. Fiorentina holds a 1-0 lead going into the second leg of the other semifinal on Wednesday.

Juventus holds the record for the most Italian Cup wins, with their last victory in 2021. Reaching the final also secures Juventus’ spot in next season’s four-team Italian Super Cup.

Castellanos, known for performing well in critical matches, had scored four goals against Real Madrid last April while playing for Girona. His first goal came 12 minutes in, when he headed in a corner over Alex Sandro. Soon after the break, he secured his second goal by outmuscling Gleison Bremer during a counterattack.

Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie suffered an apparent left ankle injury after Castellanos’ second goal, briefly leaving the field but returning before being substituted in the 81st minute.
