Ryan Garcia has confirmed that he placed a bet on himself to defeat Devin Haney and ended up with significant winnings. Garcia managed to score a stunning victory, knocking down Haney three times and securing a majority decision win on Saturday night at the Barclays Center in New York.
‘King Ry’ initially lost around $600,000 to Haney for missing weight by 3.2 pounds, but the 25-year-old claims he earned approximately $50 million in total from the fight. Most of that income came from his fight purse and endorsements, but a substantial portion was due to a $2 million bet he placed on himself to win.
During the DAZN broadcast, commentators mentioned that Garcia earned $12 million from the bet at 6/1 odds. Garcia confirmed this on social media, writing on Instagram: “If you bet, bet on yourself on top of what we made. Eating Good. About 50 million (probably more) in one night, not too shabby. I will let God guide me on how to use this money, Amen.”
Garcia’s Instagram post included a photo of him on fight night alongside a screenshot of a tweet stating: “Ryan Garcia reportedly bet $2 million on himself to defeat Devin Haney and was paid out $12 million.” Following his victory, Garcia’s stock has surged, and he now has numerous potential options for his next fight.
On Saturday night, Garcia received a congratulatory message from Benn, who expressed interest in facing either Garcia or Haney next. Benn tweeted: “Great performance from Garcia. I called it. Credit to Devin Haney for getting up off the floor 3 times. I will fight any of these guys.”
Garcia responded, suggesting they fight in London at the O2 Arena and aiming a playful yet aggressive comment at Benn: “Let’s run it in London at the O2. I will fracture your SPLEIN and then eat it. Shoutout London.”
