Amazon Music Unveils Maestro: Its Own AI Playlist Generator

Amazon Music introduces Maestro, its own AI playlist generator, currently in beta testing. It allows U.S. customers on iOS and Android to create playlists using spoken or written prompts, including emojis. Users can input various prompts, such as activities, sounds, or emotions, with prompt suggestions available for inspiration. Maestro quickly generates curated playlists based on user input, though initial perfection isn’t guaranteed.

Similar to Spotify, Amazon has safeguards against offensive language and inappropriate prompts. Maestro is available to a subset of free Amazon Music users, Prime members, and Unlimited subscribers in the U.S., with broader availability planned.

Subscribers enjoy enhanced functionality like instant playlist streaming, while non-subscribers are limited to 30-second previews. This approach may encourage users to upgrade, reflecting the trend of offering premium AI experiences as part of paid services.

To use Maestro, users need the latest Amazon Music app version. They can access Maestro on their home screen or while creating a playlist, input their ideas via speech or text, and start streaming with a tap. Playlists can also be saved and shared, enhancing music discovery socially.

Amazon suggests prompts like “😭 and eating 🍝”; “Make my 👶 a genius”; “Myspace era hip-hop”; “🏜️🌵🤠;” “Music my grandparents made out to”; “🎤🚿🧼”; and “I tracked my friends and they’re all hanging out without me” to give you an idea of how silly the prompts can be for this new experience.

The company didn’t say when the beta would roll out more broadly, only that it would expand to more customers over time.
