Lionel Messi, one of the most revered figures in the world of football, recently shared insights into his retirement plans during an interview with Big Time. When asked about the timing of his retirement from the sport, Messi emphasized that he would step down when he no longer feels valuable to his team.

He expressed his self-awareness, stating that he knows when his performance is lacking and when he can no longer contribute effectively. Despite this, Messi clarified that retirement is not a current focus for him, as he aims to live in the present and enjoy each day as it unfolds. He emphasized that as long as he feels capable and passionate about competing, he will continue to do so without being constrained by age.

He added,

“I haven’t yet thought of what I’m going to do when I retire. Today I try to enjoy the day-to-day, the moments, without thinking about life after [football]. I am not sure about anything yet, I hope to keep playing for a while longer, which is what I like to do. When the time comes, I will surely find a way to fulfil myself and do what I like, and [find] a new role.”

Messi has won 42 trophies which includes ten La Liga titles, seven Copa del Reys, four Champions Leagues, a World Cup and a Copa America. He has also won eight Ballon d’Or trophies, three more than his nearest rival Cristiano Ronaldo.
