England’s Dementia Awareness Campaign: Nameless Shirts Return Against Belgium

England players will again wear shirts without names on the back in the second half of their friendly against Belgium on Tuesday as part of a campaign to raise awareness of dementia.

This symbolic gesture highlights the loss of memories experienced by individuals with dementia. The initiative stems from a collaboration between the Alzheimer’s Society and the Football Association, with nameless shirts initially introduced during a match against Switzerland in March 2022.

Following the game, these unique shirts will be auctioned off to generate funds for Alzheimer’s Society research. Kate Lee, the charity’s CEO, emphasized the importance of sparking conversations about dementia symptoms and encouraging early diagnosis and support for affected individuals. Through football, the campaign seeks to inspire fans to contribute to research efforts and provide assistance to their loved ones facing dementia-related challenges.
