Brazilian star Vinicius Junior emotional break’s down during press conference, admitting, “I’m losing my passion for the game.”

Real Madrid’s Brazilian winger, Vinicius Jr, expressed his anguish over the persistent racist abuse he faces in Spain, revealing that it has dampened his joy for playing football. Speaking emotionally during a press conference ahead of Brazil’s friendly against Spain, Vinicius disclosed his frustration with the impunity granted to fans who continue to subject him to racist taunts.

Last season alone, La Liga received reports of 10 instances of racist abuse directed at the 23-year-old. Struggling to hold back tears at times, Vinicius admitted that the ongoing racist abuse has made it increasingly difficult for him to find motivation and enjoyment in the game.

Despite the ordeal, Vinicius affirmed his determination to stay in Spain, emphasizing that leaving would only gratify the racists. He asserted, “I will stay because that way the racists can continue to see my face more and more.” Vinicius, known for his bold playing style, highlighted his commitment to Real Madrid and the team’s success, which often draws negative reactions from certain quarters.

Brazil’s upcoming match against Spain at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium serves as part of an anti-racism initiative. Recalling a distressing incident during a previous game at Valencia’s Mestalla stadium, where he was racially abused and subsequently involved in an altercation, Vinicius emphasized the lack of repercussions for such behavior.

Despite the outpouring of support he received following the incident, Vinicius lamented the recurrence of racist abuse this season, with La Liga reporting multiple cases in recent months. Expressing his growing disillusionment, Vinicius underscored the urgent need for stricter penalties to deter such behavior.

He stressed, “If we start punishing these people… they’ll be afraid to speak out,” advocating for measures to instill fear in perpetrators, whether through stadium surveillance or legal consequences. Despite the challenges, Vinicius remains resolute in his fight against racism, acknowledging that his presence alone is a testament to his victory over adversity.
